This collaborative t-shirt was part of the "Barrio Sagrado" Exhibit that Veejay Villafranca had in PURVEYR Post in April 13, 2019.
Practicing photography for almost 15 years now, Veejay Villafranca showcased some of his best works since he started back in 2005 up to the present.
For Villafranca, the religious practices in the country are often painted as extreme or sometimes fanatic. But being a documentary photographer, he always tries to find a deeper illustration than what the media provides. His exhibit, Barrio Sagrado is a collection of photographs that will make you take a second look on the Filipino’s faith and practices.
Villafranca has been covering different stories in the Philippines and Asia – from counter-culture to environmental issues, changing Filipino culture, and religious practices. Most of his works are in black and white, and this treatment blend well with his choice of subjects, as his photos clearly capture the raw emotions and the story sans the color.
“It's time to look deeper into our culture and heritage and understand how we experience religiosity as a way of life.” — Veejay Villafranca
